Information               Information on texts, materials to be covered, testing, and grading policies can be found in the (thick) departmental syllabus handout for APPM 1313.  A tentative course schedule is attached to the section syllabus you are now reading.

Tests                          Five one-hour tests will be given during scheduled class time.  There will be no make-up exams for the hour tests.  An optional comprehensive final test will be given the last day of class, Wednesday, 12 December 2012.  The optional final test grade will replace a missed test.  If no test has been missed, the final test grade will replace the lowest test grade made on the hour tests.

Homework                 Homework will be collected before each one-hour test.  Answers to homework problems are listed in the back of the text and, for worksheets, in a three ring notebook kept at the Math Lab Help Desk.  Homework submitted late will receive 75% of the credit it would have earned if submitted on time.  Homework will not be accepted more than one week after it is due.

Attendance                Attendance will be recorded at the end of each class.  Regular attendees who actively participate in class discussions will receive special consideration in the event their final averages are slightly below a letter grade cutoff.  For example, regular attendees with 89.5 final averages will often be awarded an “A.”  Those whose attendance is irregular are, unfortunately, most often no longer enrolled in the class at the time final grades are awarded, but in any case, they do not receive special consideration.  (There’s a 33% drop rate in all sections of APPM 1313.  Don’t become a statistic!)

You are expected to be in your seat by the time class begins and to remain there until class is over.  If you have an emergency that requires you to leave class before the scheduled ending time, let the professor know you have an emergency and slip out as quietly and unobtrusively as possible.  It is expected that this will happen no more than once per semester per student.

Calculators                 Calculators are not necessary for homework or to complete test exercises.  Calculators are not permitted on the first three tests, but are permitted on the remaining tests.

End of Semester      To be considered for credit, all work must be submitted to the instructor or to the Science and Math office, SEM 2E6, no later than 5:30 p.m., Friday, 14 December 2012.

Tutoring                     You’ve already paid for tutoring.  It’s available for the asking in the Math Lab.  The new extended hours of operation for the Math Lab are displayed below.
